Someone, or multiple someones, stole and caused considerable damage to an SUV owned by deputy Cowley County attorney Jim Spring. Just before 2 a.m. Sunday, Winfield police found the vehicle hung up in some fencing near the intersection of Whittier and Booth.

The thief or thieves had stuffed some leaves in the backseat of the silver 2009 Ford Escape, in an apparent attempt to light the vehicle on fire, police chief Danny Parker said.
