Making his playoff debut, former Cowley College pitcher Trevor Rosenthal finished off the St. Louis Cardinals’ 12-4 win over the Washington Nationals Monday by striking out the side.
Rosenthal, who was summoned to pitch the ninth inning, struck out Jason Werth and Bryce Harper before allowing a two-out single to Ryan Zimmerman. He then struck out Adam LaRoche to close out the win and even the National League Division Series at one game apiece.
During the regular season, Rosenthal posted a 2.78 earned run average while pitching out of the Cardinals’ bullpen. Rosenthal struck out 25 batters and walked only seven in 22 2/3 innings pitched. Opposing hitters batted just .175 against Rosenthal as they had only 14 hits in 89 plate appearances.
Rosenthal was a member of the Cowley College baseball team, which qualified for the JUCO World Series in 2009.
