Ark City Student Wins 2nd Place in Kansas Book Festival Writing Contest

First Lady Mary Brownback today announced the winners of the 2012 Kansas Book Festival Writing Contest sponsored by Payless ShoeSource and KTWU. Local Arkansas City Highschool Student, Ally Burr, was one of the second place winners. 

The contest, which was announced at last year’s Kansas Book Festival, opened on January 1 and ended April 15. The winners will be recognized at the 2012 Kansas Book Festival this Saturday, September 15.
 
The 2012 Kansas Book Festival will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and includes more than 30 authors giving presentations throughout the day on their books. The event will also feature book signings, an exhibitors tent with authors, publishers, bookstores and more along with local food vendors and an entertainment stage. This family-friendly event is free to the public and is sponsored by Security Benefit. Entries were divided into three categories: 3rd-5th grades, 6th-8th grades and 9th-12th grades. There is a first and second place winner in each category per congressional district. Each winner receives a cash award along with a Payless ShoeSource gift card. The theme for this year’s contest was My Kansas Shoes Were Made for Walking.
