Clint Combs is CornerBank’s Community Cornerstone Award recipient in Arkansas City for August. In recognition of his service, CornerBank will contribute $100 to the non-profit organization of his choice. He has selected Cowley County Safe Homes to receive the contribution. A reception honoring Combs’ service will be at 3:30 p.m., Thursday, August 30, in the CornerBank community room, 125 N. Summit. The public is invited to attend the reception.
Combs is a board member for Twin Rivers Developmental Supports and served two previous terms on the board of the Arkansas City Area Chamber of Commerce. He has been a member of Rotary for 20 years, where he has served on the board, helped with distribution of flags on holidays and rings bells during the holidays for the Salvation Army. He has been a supporter of the Ark City Arts Council for more than 15 years.
He is a gust speaker and instructor at Cowley College for finance and economics classes. Additionally, he speaks about investing and economics at the high school and other civic organizations.
Combs has been a member of the Central Christian Church for 20 years. He has served as chairman of the board, elder and deacon, as well as teaching a high school Sunday school class five years. He helped organize and assist with youth activities, weekend retreats and campouts, as well as many other roles within the church. He is a member of the Chalice Casting Company and has performed in several of the church plays.
Other volunteer and advocacy activities include coaching little league soccer and baseball, Burford project, Cowley County Safe Homes and the Arkalalah Queens Committee. He has been an auctioneer for numerous fundraising events and hosted many Christmas Gala events at the Brown Center. He has adopted several Cowley College athletes throughout the years and still keeps in touch with several of them. He was instrumental in the process of donating a new emergency relief trailer for the benefit of the Red Cross in Cowley County.
Combs has been the recipient of the Rotary Paul Harris award and the Arkansas City Area Arts Council Directors Award for Outstanding Service to the Arts. In 2011, he was awarded Executive Council through RAYMOND JAMES FINANCIAL SERVICES. Combs graduated from Waverly High School and then joined the U.S. Air Force. Combs’ career started as a licensed insurance agent for Farm Bureau and grew to include real estate licensing and auctioneering. He later earned securities licensing and moved to Ark City in 1992 to open an Edward Jones office. He has earned numerous professional accreditations and opened an independent financial firm, Mid-Continent Financial, offering securities through RAYMOND JAMES FINANCIAL SERVICES in 2009.
Combs’ family includes his wife, Brenda, with whom he just celebrated 31 years of marriage. They have two sons: Travis, and his wife, Candace, of Ark City; and Tyler and his wife, Colleen, of Wichita.
Combs was selected for the award by the Community Cornerstone Award selection committee, which includes Bob Foster, Arleta Rice, Judy Reedy, Curt Freeland and Brenda Combs.
