The Ponca City Police Department is participating in the nationwide campaign “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over.”

This continues a partnership between the Ponca City Police Department and the Oklahoma Highway Safety Office

According to the Ponca City News, Patrol Division Captain Randy Tyner, says that over the next two weeks, officers will be having safety check point at different locations around Ponca City.

These safety check points will check for impaired driving, compliance with safety belt and mandatory insurance coverage law, driver’s license status and outstanding warrant checks.

National statistics show that alcohol impairment among drivers involved in fatal crashes is about four times higher at night than during the day. Also, more than 30 percent of drivers involved in fatal crashes on weekends are alcohol impaired.
