Cowley County Places Burn Ban Due To Recent Fires

Tuesday, July 24, 2012
Blake Carter

Multiple fires in the last few days, due to hot and dry weather, including a large grass and structure fire in the Pleasant Valley Area, that affected multiple property owners, has forced Cowley County to issue a burn ban.

This ban would make Cowley County one of 45 plus counties in Kansas that have placed a burn ban this month alone, due to the weather conditions, according to the Hutchinson News.

This burn ban is for the unincorporated areas of the Cowley County.  The ban is effective for 7 days unless weather conditions change, at which time it can be lifted.

No official cause of the fires have been determined but heat and lack of rain have created dangerous conditions conducive to grass fires that can grow out of control quickly according to fire officials.
