UPDATE: Winfield Church Burglaries Considered Connected

The Winfield Police Department is currently investigating three burglaries committed in churches.  On the morning of July 14, 2012 the Nazarene Church located at 201 East Nineteenth Avenue reported the church had been forcibly entered over the evening and an undisclosed amount of currency was taken.

On the morning of July 15, 2012 the Trinity Lutheran Church located at 910 Mound Street reported that someone had forcibly entered the church overnight and removed an undisclosed amount of currency.  Also on the same day, the First Christian Church located at 904 Alexander Street also reported that someone overnight had forcibly entered the church and removed an undisclosed amount of currency.

All three incidents are considered connected to each other.  All three churches sustained significant damage done by the parties involved.  The remaining churches in town have been contacted and warned about the three recent burglaries.

Police are asking for the community’s assistance in this investigation.  Anyone with any possible information about the church burglaries is asked to contact the Winfield Police Department at (620) 221-5555 or to contact Cowley County Crimestoppers at (620) 221-7777.

Winfield Police are investigating the burglaries of three churches overnight Saturday into Sunday.

Investigators have not released many details, but KSOK News has learned that at least three churches were broken into.

Authorities were investigating the burglaries early Sunday morning, and said they will be issuing a news release soon.

Ark City police are also investigating a burglary at Hillcrest Baptist Church. When asked, officers do not know if that burglary is connected to the ones in Ark City.
