Kay County Primary Elections Finalize Offices

Tuesday, June 26, 2012
By: Shawn Wheat

Two offices were up for grabs in the Kay County Primary Election.

According to the Kay County Election Board, no democrats filed to race against the Republican winners after the Primary Election, so the two winners from Tuesday elections will claim those seats at the beginning of their terms.

When it comes to the Kay County Court Clerk, Marilee Thornton wins with 1553 votes to Ruslyn Hermanson’s 826.  Thornton will move on uncontested, so she will be the next Kay County Court Clerk.

In the County Commissioner 2nd District race, incumbent Steve Austin wins with 551 votes to Jim Thomas’ 244 votes.  Austin will retain his seat for another term.

The numbers are unofficial until they are certified by the Kay County Election Board on Friday at 5:00p.m.
