A coordinated effort involving ten law enforcement agencies and organized by the District Attorney’s Office kicked off Wednesday and continues this week. According to DA’s investigator Kyle Hartwig 20 fugitives were arrested Wednesday clearing a huge number of outstanding warrants along with two new cases generated against one of the fugitives and an additional charge against another fugitive.
“The state’s funding crunch last year forced us to be more resourceful and coordinate our own plans with the assistance from other agencies”, Hartwig said. “Last year’s round up was a success and yesterday’s arrests were too”, he continued.
The fugitive list was compiled targeting those with recent outstanding drug, felony assaults involving dangerous weapons and wildlife warrants. This year’s efforts were more streamlined by having the agents and officers split up into three teams and having a van from the Kay County Detention Facility on site to transport and book the offenders directly into the detention facility.
