Arkansas City Public Schools is participating in the Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) again this year. The program, sponsored by USD 470 and administered by the U.S. Department of Agriculture for the fifth year, will help ensure children get the healthy meals they need to not only function but to grow and excel during the summer months.
Breakfast and lunch will be served free of charge to children from 1 to 18 years of age from June 4 to June 29, Monday through Thursday. Parents simply take your children to Adams Elementary, 1201 N. 10th or the Arkansas City Middle School, 400 E. Kansas Ave. Breakfast will be served from 8:15 to 8:45 a.m. and lunch will be served from 11:45 to 12:15 p.m.
School aged children also have the opportunity to take food home for the weekend as part of the summer meal backpack program. Each Thursday in June, children may go to north side of Adams Elementary and pick up a free bag of food. Each bag contains three individual sack lunches. Pick up time is from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on these dates: June 7, 14, 21, and 28.
“We are excited for the opportunity to offer these free meal programs and hope that children in our community will benefit from these services,” Jeri Crumbliss, USD 470 Business Director, said.
